The Clinical Intern gains supervised experience in addiction treatment while working alongside licensed counselors. Interns participate in clinical meetings, supervision, and core activities such as screenings, treatment planning, case management, client education, and documentation while building hours toward CADC certification.
Training Objectives for Interns
- The majority of intern accrued hours will be applicable toward CADC-I work experience requirements.
- At least 80% of accrued hours will involve the Addiction Counselor Competency Domains as described by MHACBO.
- Every intern must participate in the following minimum activities each month:
- 1 hour of individual supervision with a CADC II or CADC III
- 1 hour of group supervision
- Attend the scheduled clinical staff meeting each day they work
- Over the course of the placement, interns will participate in a variety of the following activities:
- A&D Screening, Orientation, or Assessment
- A&D Treatment Planning
- A&D Case Management, Discharge Planning, and Relapse Prevention
- A&D Client, Family, or Community Education (where the intern is the presenter)
- A&D Documentation
Record Keeping Requirements
- Every intern must maintain a supervised hour tracking sheet throughout the internship.
- The intern must present the tracking form to their onsite supervisor prior to the end of the internship for review and signature verifying completed hours.
